The School of Leadership of Afghanistan (SOLA), an institution dedicated to the education of Afghan girls, has officially opened a permanent school in Rwanda. The organization, headed by founder Shabana Basij-Rasikh, relocated its operations after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, which resulted in significant restrictions on female education within the country.

Following the initial evacuation of students and staff, the school operated in temporary settings before securing a permanent location in Rwanda. The move is framed by the organization as a necessary step to preserve the academic future of its students, who were otherwise barred from secondary and higher education under the current Afghan government's policies. While the school has successfully established its new base, the transition highlights the broader challenge faced by Afghan educators and students who have sought refuge abroad to bypass domestic bans on schooling for girls. The institution continues to focus on providing a curriculum that maintains continuity for its displaced student body, serving as a rare example of an Afghan educational entity successfully reconstituting itself in a foreign nation.
