Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham opted to work away from his office at the No 10 North building this past Friday to accommodate a request from a bride. The building, which serves as the government’s northern headquarters, also houses the Manchester register office where weddings are performed.

In July, bride-to-be Sarah Burwin posted a video on TikTok requesting that Burnham avoid the premises on her wedding day. Burwin expressed concern that the security detail and media presence associated with the Mayor’s work would interfere with her wedding photographs and the overall atmosphere of her ceremony. While she jokingly invited the Prime Minister to attend, she was firm in her request for the Mayor to vacate the space for the duration of the event.

Burnham complied with the request, ensuring that the wedding party could proceed without the logistical complications of a high-profile political presence. The incident highlights the unique dual-purpose nature of the No 10 North building, which functions simultaneously as a high-security government hub and a public venue for civil ceremonies. While the Mayor’s office has not released a formal statement regarding the policy for future events, the move was widely viewed as a gesture of goodwill toward a local constituent.
