Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has initiated a proposal for cross-state cooperation between Assam and West Bengal regarding the preservation of historic religious sites. The primary focus of the request is the Madhupur Satra, a significant cultural and spiritual site located in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. The Satra is historically linked to the Srimanta Sankardev movement, which originated in Assam.

In addition to seeking support for the upkeep and development of the Madhupur Satra, Sarma has extended an invitation to the West Bengal government to send an official delegation to visit the Batadrava Than in Assam. The Batadrava Than is considered the birthplace of the 15th-century saint-scholar Srimanta Sankardev and serves as a major pilgrimage site. By proposing this reciprocal visit, the Assam government aims to strengthen cultural ties and collaborative efforts in heritage conservation between the two neighboring states.

While the proposal emphasizes cultural preservation, it also highlights the ongoing efforts by the Assam government to promote the legacy of the Neo-Vaishnavite movement beyond its state borders.
