Kalie McCrystal, a 38-year-old athlete from Squamish, British Columbia, has gone missing in the Alps while preparing for a record-breaking attempt on the Matterhorn. McCrystal was conducting a training session on the 14,692-foot mountain, which straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy, when she disappeared.

According to the Skyrunner World Series, McCrystal successfully reached the summit of the Matterhorn before beginning her descent down the Italian face of the peak. The final confirmed sighting of the athlete occurred near a high-altitude shelter located at approximately 12,500 feet. Following this sighting, contact with the athlete was lost, and she has not been seen since Tuesday.
