Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, has received a donation of 270,000 eggs. This distribution is the latest development in a broader initiative overseen by North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson, following an antitrust settlement with three of the largest egg producers in the United States.

The donation is part of a series of distributions across the state. Food banks in Raleigh and Winston-Salem received similar shipments last month. According to the Attorney General’s office, this is the third phase of the rollout, with plans to provide eggs to five additional locations in the near future. The settlement stems from allegations that the producers engaged in anti-competitive practices that inflated egg prices for consumers. By redirecting these goods to food banks, the state aims to mitigate the impact of those price hikes on vulnerable populations.
