The Chinese Institute of Command and Control (CICC) recently convened an expert panel in Beijing to approve the development of 10 new standards for satellite operations. These proposed standards focus on autonomous coordination and data sharing between satellites, a move intended to streamline how space-based assets communicate and function as a unified network.

While the standards are currently classified as voluntary, the initiative represents a significant step in China's broader effort to modernize its space capabilities. According to reports, the drafting process has now moved to the consultation phase. Military and technology analysts observe that if these standards are successfully implemented, they could provide the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) with a more robust satellite network. Increased autonomy in satellite systems is often viewed as a way to reduce reliance on ground-based control, thereby making the network more resilient against potential interference or disruption. Furthermore, improved data sharing protocols could theoretically accelerate the speed at which satellite networks process information for military targeting purposes.

Because the project is in its early stages, the specific technical requirements of these standards remain limited.
