China is making significant strides in its long-term goal to establish a competitive domestic civil aviation industry capable of challenging the market dominance of Boeing and Airbus. The C919, China’s flagship narrow-body jet, recently achieved several operational milestones, including the launch of its first scheduled international route and the completion of a high-altitude variant flight test. Furthermore, European test pilots have reportedly provided positive feedback, marking a step forward in the aircraft's international credibility.

Beyond the C919, the Chinese government is intensifying its industrial policy to support the aviation sector. National efforts are currently focused on two primary objectives: accelerating the certification process for domestically designed jet engines and advancing the development of the widebody C929 airliner. These initiatives are supported by a substantial order book, with reports indicating that combined orders for these domestic aircraft have surpassed 1,200 units. While the project aims to reduce reliance on foreign technology, the success of these programs remains contingent on the ability to scale production and secure international regulatory approvals, which are critical for competing with established Western manufacturers.
