Chery, the Chinese automotive group responsible for the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, has announced plans to open a research and development center in England. The company describes this facility as a key component of its long-term strategy to deepen its footprint in the British market.

This expansion comes as Chery experiences rapid growth in the UK. Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders indicates that the company’s brands captured nearly 8% of the UK market share in July, a notable increase from the 3% share held during the same period last year. Beyond the new research site, Chery has signaled intentions to eventually move toward local manufacturing of its vehicles within the UK. While the company is positioning itself for further growth, the announcement highlights the increasing presence of Chinese automotive brands in the European and British markets, a trend that has drawn both consumer interest and industry attention.
