A communication-focused app called RiseGuide has launched a unique hiring initiative, seeking individuals to serve as 'Chief Small Talk Officers.' The company intends to hire up to three people for a monthlong project that involves approaching strangers in public spaces, such as parks, bookstores, and fitness classes, to engage in casual conversation.

According to the company, the program is designed to address a growing trend where many individuals, particularly younger Americans, report difficulty or discomfort with initiating and maintaining small talk. By providing a structured environment for these interactions, the app hopes to help participants build social confidence.

While the role was initially titled 'Head of Hanging Out,' the company rebranded the position to 'Chief Small Talk Officer' to emphasize the professional nature of the assignment. Each hire will receive a $2,000 stipend for the month, along with a dedicated budget to cover expenses for their outings. The initiative acts as a real-world test for the app’s theory that direct, guided exposure to social situations can effectively improve communication abilities for those who find such interactions challenging.
