The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ministry of Health released new data on Wednesday confirming that the death toll from the ongoing Ebola outbreak has exceeded 3,000. This figure marks a significant milestone in what is currently the fastest-growing Ebola epidemic in the nation's history.

According to the official report, there have been 6,186 confirmed cases of the virus since the World Health Organization (WHO) officially designated the outbreak a global health emergency in May. Of those cases, 3,007 individuals have died. The data also notes that approximately 1,400 people have survived the infection, though the high mortality rate remains a primary concern for international health organizations working on the ground.

This outbreak has presented unique challenges to medical responders, including security issues and difficulties in reaching remote areas.
