The Congress party has formally voiced its opposition to the appointment of Dushyant Gautam, a senior BJP leader from Uttarakhand, as the new Governor of Sikkim. The party’s objection centers on the political background of the appointee, suggesting that the selection process is driven by partisan interests rather than administrative suitability for the state.

In response to these criticisms, the BJP has shifted the focus toward the Congress party's internal conduct. Manveer Singh Chauhan, the media in-charge for the BJP in Uttarakhand, publicly questioned the Congress leadership's stance on moral and ethical standards. Chauhan specifically pointed to the party's lack of public comment regarding a Congress Member of Parliament who is currently facing allegations of sexual harassment brought forward by students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

While the Congress party frames the appointment as a matter of political overreach and questionable governance, the BJP characterizes the opposition as a diversionary tactic. The BJP argues that the Congress party lacks the moral authority to critique government appointments while failing to address serious misconduct allegations within its own ranks. Currently, the discourse remains focused on these competing narratives rather than the specific administrative duties or qualifications of the incoming governor.
