Diocesan Boys’ School (DBS), a prominent institution in Hong Kong, is moving to expand its academic offerings by adding the International Advanced Level (IAL) curriculum. Headmaster Ronnie Cheng Kay-yen announced the initiative during a Primary One admission event held on campus this past Saturday.

Currently, the school provides students with the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. By incorporating the IAL, the school aims to provide a third option for students preparing for higher education. The school has already received necessary approvals from Cambridge International Education and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.

The final implementation of this plan remains contingent upon receiving formal authorization from the Hong Kong Education Bureau. Should the proposal be approved, DBS would be the first school in the region to operate with three concurrent university-preparatory pathways. The administration views this expansion as a way to provide greater flexibility for students with varying academic goals and international aspirations. While the announcement has been made public, the school is currently awaiting the final regulatory steps before the program can be officially integrated into its academic structure.
