The U.S. Attorney’s office in the District of Columbia has requested the dismissal of all charges against former Olympian David Hearn. Hearn had previously faced potential felony charges, including a maximum sentence of ten years, for alleged vandalism of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The Justice Department’s decision to drop the case follows an internal review which concluded that the damage to the site was not the result of intentional vandalism. Instead, federal investigators determined that the damage occurred due to a "rushed and botched installation" at the site.

Former President Donald Trump publicly criticized the move on Saturday, stating that he does not agree with the decision to drop the charges. The disagreement highlights a tension between the former president’s stance on the prosecution and the findings of the current U.S. Attorney’s office.
