On Thursday, the commission issued an interim order prohibiting both competing factions from utilizing the party’s established name and its signature 'Flowers and Grass' symbol.

The decision aims to ensure a level playing field for both groups while the commission reviews the underlying conflict. By restricting the use of the party's identity, the poll body intends to prevent voter confusion and protect the rights of both factions as they prepare for the electoral process. Both groups have been instructed to propose new names and symbols for the commission's approval, which will be used exclusively for the duration of these by-elections.

While the order is temporary, it represents a significant hurdle for both factions, as they are now forced to campaign without the brand recognition associated with the Trinamool name and symbol. The commission has not yet issued a final ruling on the legitimacy of either faction, meaning this restriction is strictly limited to the bypoll period to preserve the integrity of the vote.
