The disparity is particularly stark in states like Bihar, which reports only 35.9 rural internet subscribers per 100 people. This figure is among the lowest in the country, highlighting that physical infrastructure coverage does not automatically translate to widespread digital access or usage.

Industry analysts note that Starlink’s satellite technology could theoretically bypass the need for traditional ground-based fiber or cable infrastructure, which is often difficult and expensive to deploy in remote or mountainous areas. However, the company faces regulatory hurdles and competition from domestic providers who are also vying for the rural market.
