Tensions in the Horn of Africa have escalated following accusations from the Ethiopian government that Sudan and Egypt are providing military or logistical support to rebels in the Tigray region. Ethiopia claims this external interference is fueling the ongoing conflict and undermining regional stability. These allegations come at a time when Ethiopia is already navigating significant internal security challenges and strained diplomatic relations with its neighbors over issues such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

In response, the Sudanese military has categorically denied the Ethiopian government's claims. Sudan’s leadership stated that they are not involved in supporting Tigrayan fighters. Furthermore, the Sudanese army has leveled a counter-accusation against Ethiopia, alleging that elements within Ethiopia are providing support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group currently engaged in a violent power struggle against the Sudanese Armed Forces. Egypt has also maintained a stance of non-interference, though it remains a vocal critic of Ethiopia’s policies regarding the Nile River. The conflicting narratives highlight a deepening cycle of mutual suspicion and proxy warfare accusations between the three nations, complicating efforts to reach a peaceful resolution to the regional instability.
