One year after the death of Iryna Zarutska, her family has initiated legal action against the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the security company contracted by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). The lawsuit, filed in Mecklenburg County Superior Court by Zarutska’s uncle, Frank Scott Haskell, seeks to hold these entities accountable for the fatal stabbing of the Ukrainian refugee while she was a passenger on a municipal light rail train.
