According to data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the number of confirmed cases has reached nearly 14,000. This figure represents a sharp increase compared to the previous year, during which fewer than 2,000 cases were documented.

Cyclospora is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. People typically become infected by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite, which is often associated with fresh produce. Despite the significant rise in case numbers, health authorities have not yet pinpointed the specific food items or geographic sources driving this year's outbreak. Investigations are ongoing as officials work to trace the infections back to their origin. The lack of a confirmed source complicates public health efforts to issue specific recalls or safety warnings, leaving consumers without clear guidance on which products to avoid. Health agencies continue to emphasize standard food safety practices, such as thorough washing of produce, while the investigation into the transmission vectors remains active.
