A group of former Kennedy Center employees has formally accused the venue’s leadership of mismanagement regarding the facility's structural maintenance. In a letter sent to Congress this Thursday, the employees alleged that planned waterproofing repairs were halted by officials months before the center announced its closure.

David Seide, an attorney representing the whistleblowers, provided internal documents to support these claims. According to Seide, these records directly challenge the narrative provided by the Kennedy Center board, which has maintained that the closure was an urgent, unavoidable response to ongoing water leaks. The employees suggest that the issues cited as the reason for the sudden shutdown were known to management well in advance and that the decision to stop repairs may have been a deliberate choice rather than a reactive safety measure.

While the employees contend that the closure was not as sudden or unexpected as the board claims, the Kennedy Center leadership has not yet provided a detailed public rebuttal to the specific documents cited in the letter. The situation remains a point of contention between the former staff and the institution's governing body, with the whistleblowers seeking congressional oversight to determine if the closure was handled with transparency.
