Russell suggested that the track surface and layout could lead to an unusually high number of pit stops during Sunday's race, jokingly referring to the event as a potential "six-stop race."

While the comment was made in a lighthearted manner, it reflects a genuine technical challenge for the teams. High tyre wear is a critical factor in Formula 1 strategy, as it dictates how often drivers must return to the pits for fresh rubber. If the degradation levels remain as high as early practice suggests, teams will be forced to move away from traditional one- or two-stop strategies, potentially leading to a more chaotic and unpredictable race day.

There is currently no consensus among the drivers regarding the severity of the issue, as teams are still gathering data on how the track surface interacts with the different Pirelli tyre compounds.
