Dating app Grindr has reached a £26 million settlement to resolve a lawsuit brought by thousands of UK users. The claimants, represented by the London-based law firm Austen Hays, alleged that the company shared highly sensitive personal information—including users' HIV status—with advertising partners without proper consent. The legal action, filed in the high court of England and Wales in April 2024, focused on data practices occurring up until early 2020.

Under the terms of the agreement, the 12,000 individuals involved in the claim are expected to receive an average compensation of approximately £2,167 each. The settlement marks the end of a two-year legal battle regarding the company's compliance with UK data protection laws. While the lawsuit highlighted significant concerns regarding the handling of private health information, the settlement allows Grindr to resolve the claims without a formal court ruling on the merits of the allegations. The company has not publicly detailed changes to its current data sharing policies as part of the announcement.
