The UK Home Office has initiated an urgent review of border operations following two separate incidents where small boats carrying migrants reached the Kent coast without being intercepted by authorities. The first incident occurred on Monday morning when a dinghy landed at Folkestone, followed by a second landing at Samphire Hoe in Dover, where 21 individuals were subsequently detained.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has tasked the Border Security Command with conducting a formal review of the circumstances surrounding these undetected arrivals. The government’s response has highlighted the operational challenges inherent in patrolling the English Channel. Education Secretary Lucy Powell addressed the incidents by suggesting that it is not feasible to intercept every vessel, stating that authorities "can’t stop everything all of the time."
