Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department officials announced on Saturday that they have successfully intercepted two smuggling attempts involving endangered species. In the first incident, officers at Hong Kong International Airport discovered 17 live turtles hidden inside socks within a package that had been declared as containing a jacket. The shipment originated from the United States.

In a second, separate incident, customs officers also seized a number of parrots. While the department confirmed that both cases involved the illegal transport of protected wildlife, they provided limited details regarding the specific species of the parrots or the identity of the woman arrested. The investigation into both smuggling operations is currently ongoing. Authorities have reiterated that the illegal import of endangered species is a serious offense under local law, carrying significant penalties for those found guilty of trafficking protected animals.
