The Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department announced on Saturday that it successfully executed the largest maritime drug seizure on record. Officials intercepted a 40-foot shipping container at the Kwai Chung Customhouse Cargo Examination Compound earlier in September. The discovery followed a targeted risk assessment and intelligence analysis conducted by customs officers.

Upon inspecting the container, which had been declared as carrying general goods, authorities uncovered a massive cache of marijuana valued at approximately HK$125 million (US$15.93 million). Following the discovery, law enforcement officials arrested three people linked to the shipment. The investigation is currently ongoing as authorities work to determine the origin and intended distribution network of the illicit cargo.
