Hong Kong reports rise in transport complaints and a domestic worker murder case
Hong Kong authorities have reported a significant increase in public transport nuisance complaints over the past three years. Separately, a 52-year-old domestic worker has been charged with the murder of her 93-year-old employer.
Official government data released on Wednesday indicates that complaints regarding inconsiderate behavior on Hong Kong’s public transport network have reached a three-year high. Reports concerning noise disturbances, such as loud music, and unhygienic practices, including placing feet on seats, rose to 66 in 2025, more than doubling from the 31 complaints recorded in 2023. The Transport Department and Environmental Protection Department have highlighted these figures as part of an ongoing effort to address passenger conduct.
In a separate development, a 52-year-old Indonesian domestic helper, identified as Kharsina, appeared in Kwun Tong Court on Wednesday to face a murder charge. The legal proceedings follow the death of her 93-year-old employer, who was discovered unresponsive in her apartment at Long Yiu House in Kai Tak’s Tak Long Estate on Sunday. Police arrested the suspect in the early hours of Monday morning. Paramedics attempted emergency treatment at the scene before transporting the elderly woman to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The suspect has been remanded in custody as the investigation continues.
