Hong Kong’s Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, recently announced that the government is exploring the use of Hong Kong Stadium as a stopgap venue for tennis events. This proposal comes as the city prepares for a major redevelopment of the centre court at Victoria Park, a primary hub for local tennis tournaments.

To ensure that the city can continue to host professional-level tennis during the construction phase, officials are looking into installing temporary courts and necessary infrastructure within the stadium grounds. The government has indicated that these arrangements could be made on a seasonal basis, allowing the stadium to serve as a flexible venue for the sport. Beyond simply maintaining current operations, the minister expressed an ambition to attract higher-level international tennis events to the city even before the permanent upgrades at Victoria Park are completed. While the plan is currently under consideration, it highlights the government's strategy to balance infrastructure modernization with the continuity of major sporting events in Hong Kong.
