A 43-year-old woman in Hong Kong has fallen victim to a major financial scam, losing nearly HK$69 million (approximately US$8.8 million) to individuals impersonating mainland Chinese law enforcement. According to police reports released on Friday, the perpetrators contacted the woman and alleged that she was involved in criminal activities. To avoid legal consequences and prove her innocence, the scammers pressured her into transferring large sums of money into specific bank accounts.

The fraudulent activity took place over a one-month window, beginning on July 2 and concluding on August 1. During this period, the victim completed multiple transactions totaling HK$68.9 million. The case highlights a persistent trend in Hong Kong where fraudsters use the guise of official authority to intimidate residents into compliance.
