In a formal communication, Democratic committee members expressed their 'strong opposition' to the expenditure, which could potentially reach $20 million depending on the final scope of the procurement. The lawmakers are demanding that ICE provide detailed justifications for the necessity of these devices, as well as information regarding the safety protocols and training associated with their use.

While the contract has been finalized, the legislative pushback highlights a growing debate over the use of force equipment within federal immigration enforcement. The Democrats' inquiry focuses on whether such technology is appropriate for use in detention and transport settings, and whether the agency adequately vetted the potential risks to detainees.
