Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced on Sunday that the group conducted a drone and missile attack against the Sharurah military base in southern Saudi Arabia. According to Saree, the operation targeted weapons depots and command centers that the Houthis claim are coordinating military actions against them. The Houthi statement did not specify the exact date the attack occurred.

Simultaneously, the conflict has seen a sharp increase in activity across Yemen. Houthi officials have accused the Saudi-led coalition of launching 129 airstrikes over a 48-hour period, reportedly utilizing F-15 and Typhoon aircraft departing from bases in Khamis Mushait and Taif. These strikes were allegedly concentrated on the governorates of Taiz, Marib, Hodeidah, Al-Jawf, Saada, Amran, and Hajjah.

While the Houthis frame their actions as a response to ongoing aggression, the South China Morning Post reports that the attack on the Sharurah base coincides with a period of renewed, heavy fighting between Houthi fighters and Yemeni government forces. This uptick in violence has resulted in a significant displacement of civilians. There is currently no independent verification of the damage caused by the Houthi strike on the Sharurah base, nor has there been a formal response from Saudi authorities regarding the specific claims made by the Houthi spokesperson.
