Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was transported from custody to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) last week for medical treatment. While the primary purpose of the visit was an eye procedure, medical staff reportedly recommended that Khan undergo a CT angiography (CTA) of the heart to address potential health concerns.

Following the visit, Khan’s political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), filed a legal challenge against the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The party contends that the failure to conduct the recommended cardiac scan constitutes a significant lapse in the state's duty of care toward the incarcerated leader. In response, hospital officials stated that the specific diagnostic equipment required for the CTA was unavailable at the facility at the time of the appointment. The legal petition seeks to compel the government to ensure that Khan receives the full spectrum of medical diagnostics recommended by his attending physicians.
