Insta360 Announces X6 Action Camera With Larger Sensors and Improved Frame Rates
Insta360 has unveiled the X6, a new 360-degree action camera featuring larger Sony sensors and higher frame rates for 8K video. The device also includes updated, more durable, and affordable replaceable lenses.
Insta360 has officially announced the X6, the latest iteration in its line of 360-degree action cameras. The new model distinguishes itself from previous versions, such as the X5 and X4 Air, by incorporating a more compact physical design while simultaneously upgrading the internal hardware.
At the core of the X6’s performance improvements are two custom 1/1.1-inch square sensors manufactured by Sony. These larger sensors allow the camera to record 8K video at up to 50 frames per second (fps), a notable increase from the 30fps limit found in the previous generation of 8K-capable models.
In addition to the sensor and frame rate upgrades, Insta360 has focused on the durability and maintenance of the camera’s optics. The X6 retains the replaceable lens system introduced in earlier models but features new glass that the company claims is five times more scratch-resistant than its predecessors. Furthermore, Insta360 has stated that the cost of these replacement lenses has been reduced by 60 percent, addressing a common concern for action camera users who frequently expose their devices to rugged environments.
