Roman Badanin, a prominent Russian investigative journalist, has released a new book titled 'The Tsar in Person,' which offers an analysis of Vladimir Putin’s leadership style and motivations. In an interview with France 24, Badanin asserts that the ongoing war in Ukraine is not driven by traditional geopolitical strategy, but rather by Putin’s desire to maintain his grip on power within Russia.

Badanin, who has spent two decades researching the Russian leader, describes Putin’s behavioral patterns as resembling those of a gang member. According to Badanin, Putin operates on a principle of escalation, where any perceived challenge or defeat is met with a disproportionately aggressive response. This 'if you beat me, I will beat you even harder' mentality is presented by the author as a core component of how the Russian president processes conflict and maintains control over his domestic political environment.

The book, currently available in Russian and French with an English translation expected in the future, aims to provide a psychological and strategic profile of the Russian leader.
