The case centers on allegations of illegal financial transactions involving the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and the IT firm Exalogic Solutions.

The investigation has become a significant point of contention in Kerala politics. While the ED is examining potential financial irregularities, Vijayan has maintained that the probe is not a neutral legal process but rather a coordinated effort by his political opponents. He specifically alleged that the BJP and the Congress are working in tandem to target his administration through these investigations.
