Because SAARC requires consensus among its member states to function effectively, the diplomatic impasse between these two influential nations has effectively paralyzed the organization for years.

However, experts note that without a fundamental shift in the relationship between New Delhi and Islamabad, the call to restart the bloc is unlikely to gain the necessary momentum.
