Nepal is currently facing a significant financial shortfall as it attempts to secure funding for climate-related reconstruction projects. According to reports, the nation requires approximately $5 billion to meet its rebuilding goals. However, existing international climate funds are currently unable to bridge this gap.

One of the primary obstacles is the structure of current climate funding, which limits support to $20 million per individual project. This cap represents only a small fraction of the total investment Nepal requires for its recovery efforts. Furthermore, administrative delays are exacerbating the situation, as the board responsible for overseeing these funds is not scheduled to convene until December. This creates a disconnect between the urgent scale of Nepal’s reconstruction needs and the slow, limited nature of the current international financial response.
