Engineers at MIT have developed a new ingestible sensor designed to provide continuous, accurate core body temperature readings. Current methods, such as oral or forehead thermometers, often fail to capture core temperature accurately, and existing ingestible options are frequently too large, posing a risk of gastrointestinal obstruction. The new device, measuring approximately six by four millimeters, aims to solve these issues by providing a safer, more compact alternative for medical monitoring.

In a separate development, researchers at the MIT Media Lab, led by Pattie Maes, have released findings regarding the impact of AI-based chatbots on news consumption. While many users rely on AI to summarize or track current events, the study suggests this habit may come at a cost to critical thinking. Over a four-week period, participants were asked to evaluate news headlines and images. The study found that while participants were initially 21% more accurate at identifying factual information, their performance declined as they relied more heavily on AI tools. The research indicates that over-reliance on AI for news curation may hinder a user's ability to discern accurate reporting from misinformation.
