Nicaragua has formally urged the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to dismiss Germany's request to throw out a legal challenge regarding the conflict in Gaza. The case, brought by Nicaragua, alleges that Germany is complicit in genocide by continuing to supply weapons to Israel. Nicaragua argues that these exports directly facilitate the ongoing military actions in Gaza, which it characterizes as violations of the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Germany, conversely, has sought to have the case dismissed entirely. German legal representatives maintain that the accusations are baseless and that their arms exports are conducted in compliance with strict legal oversight and international humanitarian standards. Germany contends that the court lacks jurisdiction or that the claims do not meet the legal threshold required for a genocide-related case.

The ICJ is currently reviewing the arguments from both sides. While Nicaragua emphasizes the humanitarian impact of the weapons supplied, Germany focuses on its right to provide security assistance to an ally and its adherence to domestic and international export laws. The court's decision on whether to proceed with the full case or dismiss it remains pending, with both nations presenting starkly different interpretations of Germany's legal obligations under international law.
