Pakistan’s foreign ministry has officially announced efforts to revive the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an interim agreement between Iran and the United States that recently collapsed. The deal, which was intended to serve as a framework for diplomatic engagement, was declared dead by both Washington and Tehran following a series of direct military exchanges between the two countries.

Tahir Andrabi, a spokesperson for Pakistan's foreign ministry, stated that Islamabad is currently pressing both parties to return to the negotiating table. According to Andrabi, the Pakistani government is urging both the United States and Iran to fully adhere to the commitments originally outlined in the MoU. While Pakistan remains committed to the mediation process, the current status of the talks remains uncertain given the recent escalation in regional hostilities.

The collapse of the agreement was largely attributed to the exchange of attacks that strained diplomatic relations to a breaking point. Pakistan’s role as a mediator is significant, as it seeks to stabilize the situation and prevent further conflict. However, the report from Middle East Eye notes that the path toward reviving the agreement faces substantial hurdles, as both the United States and Iran have previously signaled a lack of interest in continuing under the previous terms. There is currently no confirmation from either Washington or Tehran regarding their willingness to re-engage with the Pakistani-led initiative.
