The Aeta Hungey tribe in the Philippines has publicly voiced opposition to a new tech hub initiative, known as 'Pax Silica,' which is being developed with US leadership. Petronila Munoz, a tribal chieftain, reports that the community has received minimal information regarding the project, despite the construction taking place on land the tribe has occupied for generations.

According to Munoz, the primary grievance is the lack of formal consultation. The tribe currently faces significant uncertainty regarding how much of their territory will be seized or repurposed for the development, and how the project will affect their traditional agricultural and land-based livelihoods. The tribe has emphasized that they are not being included in the decision-making process, leading to a sense of vulnerability regarding their future.

While the project is framed as a tech-led economic initiative, the local indigenous leadership is calling for greater transparency and direct engagement. As of now, the tribal leadership maintains that they intend to stand their ground until their concerns are addressed and they are given a seat at the table to discuss the project's impact on their ancestral home.
