Massachusetts-based startup PNOĒ has announced the upcoming launch of a redesigned, self-service version of its metabolic testing mask. Scheduled for release on October 1, the product is intended to make sophisticated health diagnostics more accessible to the general public in fitness environments.

Previously, PNOĒ’s technology required the presence of a trained operator to administer tests and interpret the data. The new iteration is designed to be user-friendly, allowing individuals to conduct their own metabolic assessments, including VO₂ max measurements, in approximately eight minutes. The company has also updated the physical design of the mask, moving away from a previous aesthetic that was often compared to the character Bane from the Batman franchise, toward a sleeker, more consumer-friendly appearance.

By automating the testing process, PNOĒ aims to transition its technology from a specialized clinical or high-end athletic tool to a self-serve utility for gym members. The company suggests that this shift will allow users to track their metabolic health markers more frequently and with greater convenience than traditional lab-based testing allows.
