The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has moved to advance the High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) project by approving an allocation of ₹2,634 crore specifically for land acquisition. The HCMTR is a planned elevated road network designed to circle the city and alleviate the growing pressure on Pune's existing arterial roads.

While the project has been in the planning stages for years, the formal approval of this budget indicates a shift toward active implementation. The funds are intended to compensate landowners whose properties fall within the designated alignment of the transit route. The project has historically faced challenges regarding funding and land clearance, which have contributed to significant delays in its construction timeline.
