Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha recently highlighted the implementation of a new digital payment link between India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Uzbekistan’s UZQR payment system. The initiative is designed to facilitate seamless financial transactions for Indians visiting or living in Uzbekistan, effectively removing the need for physical cash or complex currency exchange processes during their stay.

By integrating these two systems, the project aims to leverage the widespread adoption of UPI in India to provide a familiar and efficient payment experience abroad. Chadha framed the development as a significant step in enhancing convenience for Indian travelers, emphasizing the slogan “no cash, no complications.” This integration is part of a broader effort by the Indian government to expand the global footprint of its digital public infrastructure. While the announcement focuses on the user-end benefits of the technology, it reflects the ongoing diplomatic and economic cooperation between India and Uzbekistan regarding digital financial services. The system is expected to reduce the friction typically associated with international travel payments, allowing users to scan UZQR codes using their existing UPI-enabled mobile applications.
