Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has recently advocated for a shift in the mobile telecommunications industry, specifically calling for the introduction of 30-day prepaid recharge plans. Currently, many telecommunications providers offer recharge cycles based on 28 days, which results in 13 billing cycles per year rather than 12. Chadha suggests that standardizing these plans to a full 30-day duration would be a more consumer-friendly approach.

According to Chadha, this adjustment is intended to provide increased flexibility for mobile users, particularly those who utilize their devices primarily for voice calls and SMS messaging. By aligning recharge cycles with the calendar month, proponents of this change argue that consumers would experience a more predictable billing structure. While the proposal focuses on consumer convenience, it also touches upon the broader regulatory environment governing how telecommunications companies structure their service offerings. As of now, the proposal remains a public recommendation from the MP, and there has been no formal legislative mandate or industry-wide commitment to alter the existing 28-day billing cycle model.
