Ten days after massive flooding devastated parts of Nepal, rescue operations have resulted in the discovery of two survivors. On Saturday, emergency responders recovered a 64-year-old Nepali woman from her home, which had been buried under thick mud. In a separate operation, a Chinese man identified as Luhaitao was rescued from a 225-meter tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project in the Rasuwa district.

Reports indicate that the rescue of the Chinese national involved a joint effort between the Nepali military and South Korean disaster experts. Following his extraction from the tunnel, he was transported by helicopter for medical assessment. These rescues follow the discovery of two other hydropower workers in the region just one day prior.

While these rescues provide a rare success, the scale of the disaster remains immense. Sources differ slightly on the exact figures regarding the human toll; the South China Morning Post reports that the flooding has resulted in over 1,300 deaths and at least 5,500 missing persons.
