A 7,500-acre site in Northumberland, known as Emblehope Moor, has been acquired by the nature restoration company Restore for £8.5 million. The area, described as one of the most remote locations in England, is currently being positioned as a major rewilding project. The company’s stated objective is to transform the moorland to support native wildlife populations, specifically targeting the return of golden eagles, curlews, black grouse, and beavers.

The project is being framed by the company as a departure from traditional land management practices, with a focus on ecological recovery rather than conventional agricultural or commercial use. While the site is currently inaccessible by public transport and lacks formal road infrastructure, the acquisition represents the largest contiguous rewilding site under single ownership in the country. The initiative seeks to manage the land to encourage biodiversity, though specific details regarding the long-term financial model for the site and how it will interact with local land-use regulations remain limited in initial reports.
