The Russian Ministry of Defence has declared its intention to intensify "high-accuracy" strikes against military targets in Kyiv. This announcement comes as a direct response to a massive drone assault on the Moscow region, which occurred during the final day of Russia's presidential elections. Russian officials have characterized the drone strikes as an attempt by the "Kyiv regime" to disrupt the electoral process.

Reports indicate that the drone operation was the largest of its kind directed at the Russian capital since the conflict began in February 2022. According to the Russian defence ministry, the scale of the Ukrainian drone deployment was significant, involving approximately 1,600 drones. The attacks resulted in at least two civilian deaths in the Moscow region. While Russia labels the Ukrainian actions as attacks on civilian targets, the Russian military maintains that its own retaliatory strikes are focused exclusively on military infrastructure within Kyiv.
