Jim Copenhaver, a 74-year-old who was critically wounded during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died. Copenhaver was one of two spectators injured when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at the campaign rally on July 13, 2024.

Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former fire chief, was killed at the scene while shielding his family from the gunfire. Copenhaver had been hospitalized in the weeks following the attack, but his death marks the second fatality among rally attendees. The shooter, Crooks, was killed by Secret Service counter-snipers shortly after he began firing from a nearby rooftop.
