A Singaporean court sentenced a 71-year-old man to 21 years in prison on Thursday following his conviction for a series of sexual offenses spanning more than three decades. The man, who has been diagnosed as a paedophile, committed acts ranging from molestation to rape against 11 victims. The abuse occurred over a 33-year period, with victims as young as five years old at the time of the incidents.

The scope of the abuse was extensive, involving family members—specifically the defendant's daughter, granddaughters, and nieces—as well as children attending an enrichment center that the man ran alongside his wife. The court proceedings highlighted the long-term nature of the crimes and the vulnerability of the victims involved.

During sentencing, the judge addressed the defendant's health, noting that he suffers from a rare blood cancer known as myelofibrosis. The court expressed that while the sentence needed to reflect the severity of the crimes, it should not be designed to be a "crushing" sentence or a de facto life term given the defendant's age and medical condition. The case has drawn significant public attention due to the breach of trust involved in the man's familial and professional roles.
