The vehicle, which cost £124,550, was acquired by Peter Murrell, the party's former chief executive, during his tenure. This asset is currently central to a long-running police investigation into the alleged embezzlement of approximately £400,000 in party funds.

While the SNP has now removed the value of the motorhome from its balance sheet, the move highlights the ongoing financial and legal scrutiny surrounding the party's past leadership. The vehicle was famously seized by police from the home of Murrell’s wife, former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, in April 2023 as part of the 'Operation Branchform' inquiry. The investigation seeks to determine how funds raised for a second independence referendum were managed and spent. To date, no charges have been brought against any individuals, though the investigation remains active. The decision to write off the asset suggests the party no longer considers the vehicle a recoverable financial interest, though it remains a significant piece of evidence in the ongoing criminal probe.
