Tado has officially launched its Smart Thermostat X, a second-generation device that utilizes the Matter-over-Thread connectivity standard. This release comes as the company seeks to capture a larger share of the European market following Google’s decision to discontinue its own thermostat offerings in the region.

According to Tado cofounder and managing director Christian Deilmann, the company has already seen a notable increase in sales directly linked to Google’s decision to shut down servers for its older, first- and second-generation Nest thermostats. By positioning the Thermostat X as a direct successor for displaced Nest users, Tado is attempting to capitalize on the vacuum left by Google’s departure. The device is built to be compatible with the Matter smart home protocol, which is intended to make devices from different manufacturers work together more seamlessly. While Tado is actively marketing this product as a 'Nest killer,' the success of this strategy will depend on how effectively they can transition former Google customers to their ecosystem. The company remains focused on the European market, where it has established its primary footprint.
